The Split Leash

A while back we saw our pal Snoopy's Mum had him and his pal Cosmo on a split leash.  You can check out that story here.  I had commented that I have a split leash for Fred and Gloria, but have been too chicken to try it out.  Why? I don't know.  Maybe for fear being dragged down the street by two wild Bassets or falling over in a tangled mess in front of all the neighbours, I don't know.  I just envisioned disaster!  The other day I decided to finally try it.  I kept thinking, heck Snoopy's Mum even runs with Snoopy and Cosmo on the split leash!  I must be able to at least walk with these two.   So I stopped procrastinating about it and tried the split leash.

Well, it was great!!!  Probably one of the best walks I've had with these two.  Instead of pulling on me, they pull on each other.

It started out with Gloria in the lead and when she started to peter out........

Fred took over the lead.  They basically walked each other!  The best part was that by the time we got back around to our crescent they were actually walking behind me!

Thanks for that story of you and Cosmo, Snoopy!  It stayed in the back of my mind and motivated me to try our split leash!!  No more procrastinating for me!  Well........maybe just a bit.

  2. That certainly seemed to work well - Fred & Gloria look quite tired out in that last photo!

  3. Great choice on finally trying it, BM.

I think leash selection is mostly a matter of preference and we will never know what would best suit our dog until we try each and every one of them. And I'm glad Spaghetti and Gloria performed well on their first walk with it.

    Kudos to the bassets!

  8. Woo Hoo! Looks like it worked well. I would have MOM try it, but first I would have to get her to adopt another pup.

  9. Glad that worked out. I had to laugh when you mentioned that by the end of the walk, they were walking behind you. Sounds like my houndies. They start out with so much enthusiasm, but by the end, they're generally draggin'.

  10. Awesome, I don't think that would work out so good for us though. A little bit of a size difference.

  11. Woohoo!!

So happy you tried it and it worked out!! I'd forgotten about how we also pull each other along too..... I guess it's more me pulling Cosmo along, cos of course I'm faster - Tee Hee

Did you get tangled? We rarely get tangled on the split lead.

Mum says on two leads she's pulled in all kinds of directions, but on one it's a lot easier - was it the same for you?

I'm impressed you even managed the really hard bit, taking non-blurry photos whilst walking both Dogs! Tee Hee

    Have a fun day,

    Your pal Snoopy :)

  12. I love the idea of the dogs pulling each other instead of you! I would also think that it would end in a tangled disaster. Glad it didn't!

  13. Cool that it worked so well! I've always wondered how the split leash works or if I'd end up wrapped around a tree like in a cartoon!

Gloria should be used to the split leash, we use them all the time here! It comes in VERY handy when walking 8 dogs :)

  16. We used a split leash for a while too. I now just use 2 leashes in one hand since they are older, that works just as good too!:)
