The Relaxing Bath

I had a totally different blog post in mind for today but when I finally had time to sit down and write it last night, I thought I'd have a nice relaxing bath and get into my jammies first. Bath yes, relaxing no. First off Fred has to come in and try to lick all the water out of the tub and off of my arms if he can reach them.  Then hubby may as well come in and sit on the side of the tub to soak his feet.  "They're clean" he says.  Fine. So, while I'm not laying out in the tub relaxing ('cause hubby's feet are now at one end) we hear a big bang, a bunch of growling and as we look out the bathroom door the waste basket from our bedroom goes rolling by with Freddie right behind it. "Don't worry" I said, "It's empty.  Shortly after we can hear that it is apparently stuck some where and we see Freddie go trotting back past the bathroom.  About a minute later the waste basket from the computer room goes rolling by.  It too is empty.  This does prompt hubby to get his feet out of my bath and go check on Freddie  He dries his feet and carries his towel to take to the laundry.  On the way by the living room, he sees that Freddie is eating one of the said waste baskets.  I hear a raucous and he says he's got it. He puts it up where Freddie can't get it and walks back into the living room and I hear the not so pleasant words start all over again.  I ask "What now?" from my supposedly relaxing bath.  Hubby replies "Well s**t!" "I put my towel down to get the waste basket from Fred and when I turned around the little bu**er stole that!" So now in order to get Freddie to drop the towel I started making lots of splashing noise in the tub which he could not resist and came running.  I like to think he thought I was drowning and came running to my rescue.  Hey, it doesn't hurt to dream!
By now my nice relaxing bath is a bust so I give up, get out of the tub, get my jammies on, go into the living room to this.

Have a great weekend everyone!!

Monday Mischief - You can't Keep A Good Dog Down

Freddie has been getting into a lot of mischief the past few days. The vet said lots of walks but no running and playing.

Ya......right!

I don't know how you are supposed to stop a two year old basset hound or any dog for that matter from running and playing. Both of these videos I took on the weekend when we got home from our walks!

He doesn't go for long, but he just has so much energy built up and has to get it out. I figure he can't be in too much pain when he's doing that or he'd stop. I just can't wait for his appointment on Thursday as I have so many questions to ask this surgeon, like how do I stop him from running around? As a matter of fact I am writing them down so I don't forget!

I want to wish everyone who is celebrating today a Happy Thanksgiving!

Rainy Day Random Pics

Yesterday was a cool and rainy day.  I'm not complaining 'cause Lord knows we need the rain.  It was a good day for cooking comfort food and getting some laundry done.  I made vegetable beef barley soup, gruyere and bacon scones and banana muffins with streusel topping. Yummy!

When Fred and Gloria weren't waiting by my feet for a taste of things to come out of the oven....

......they were sleeping.  We did however, get a chance for a short romp outside when the rain stopped for a bit.

I love the way this shot came out because it looks like Gloria is trying to touch Fred's tail.

Gloria looks like she has a saggy butt under her chin in this one!

"Whew! Gloria! Did you have to let one rip when I'm right behind you?"

And finally, go attack the camera lady!

Sometimes rainy days can be the best.  The only downfall to yesterday, I think I put on ten pounds because all I did was eat! It's supposed to rain all week so I'd better curb my appetite now!

Playing in The Snow

Fred and Gloria have had lots of fun playing in the snow we've gotten over the past week and a half.
They've done the basset hound dance.........

Gloria tried to catch snowflakes on her tongue......

"Geez Gloria, it's not even snowing!" "Got a little bit of  'tard in ya there, do ya!"

They've eaten snow. (thankfully just the white stuff)
And when Gloria's had enough of Fred,

she lets him know it and goes and sits by the back door.

Freddie tries to shake it off.

Then into the house they go to pass out.

Now that's what I like to see!! :)

The Bench

In an earlier post I had mentioned that after Christmas I had put the red bench (ottoman) in front of the big window to deter the dogs from slobbering all over it.  Yes and stop Fred from jumping all over it when he sees a squirrel or cat or bird or a spec of dirt go by.   Now they just fight over who's going to be on the bench!

So Fred sits there for awhile and then......

"Momma!  It's my turn to be on the bench!"

Gloria sits there for awhile.  And I'm still left with this.

Oh, yes.  My little plan is working out great!

Hound of Many Hats

Okay. Maybe not many, just one. And sure, I'm not proud of what I did to the hounds last night. Quite frankly I didn't think Fred would just sit there and let me do it. I honestly thought I was in for a battle. But humiliation is a funny thing.

"Oh jeez!  You'd better not be putting this on the blog, Momma!"

"Open Your eyes!" "I'm not taking it off until you look at the camera, Freddie!"

"FINE!"

"Are ya happy now?"

Then came Gloria's turn.  Just look at how excited she was!

"How's this, Momma?"  "Do you want me to dance a jig too?"
She's such a good girl.  She'll do anything if it means more presents under the tree!

Fred finally looked at his father for help. (kinda like Ralphie in a Christmas Story when his mother makes him try on the pink bunny suit)

"Dad!"  "Your a guy  make her stop.......PLEASE!!!"

So, I stopped.  But I will always have these Christmas pictures!

Remember When........

When you read this try to hum Alan Jacksons "Remember When" music through your head.

Remember when......

Freddie was puppy "G"

He was Beckis'
He didn't belong to me

Then we went up
I picked him out

And he was ours without a doubt

And we remember when.....

Freddie was so small

Then he grew up
But didn't get very tall

He learned to sit
and pee outside
He filled our hearts with pride

And we remember when

Now looking back
He's always been a brat

He tears around
Digs up our ground
But our love for him's still sound

And we remember when.

"I love ya Freddie!"

Goooo Lions!!

Sundays in our house we get up early. Steve gets any yard work done (grass cutting, dog poop cleanup)and makes sure the fridge has some cold beer in it. I get any housework done and plan our football snack menu. On this menu was nacho chips with cheese and deep fried wings. Yummy! We put on our football garb and get the hounds walked so they will be tired for the game. Then Steve goes downstairs to warm up the big screen and watch pre-game shows while I apply my blue nail polish and Lions tatoos.

And we are football ready!

Fred and I assume the position in my/his chair while Steve assumes his. As you can see at the bottom of my chair Gloria takes her position on her bed at my feet.

Now since Seattle Seahawks are Stevies team, it is a little weird when watching Detroit with him.

Here he is in his Lions Gear, sitting in his Seahawks chair with his buddy Matt Hasselbeck (who now plays for the Titans)beside him. After the Lions game he runs up stairs and changes into his Seahawks gear for their game. What a fan!

The Detroit Lions proved just how good they are this year on Sunday when the played against the Vikings in Minnesota. Losing 20-0 at half time they came back out, changed things up, tied the game and then won in overtime with a field goal. Now that's a team with confidence! This is the first time they have been 3-0 since 1980 and their first win in the Metrodome since 1997!
Matthew Stafford threw for 378 yards completing 32 of 46 passes. Just 64 of those yards were in the first half. Coming back calm, cool and collected in the second half he threw another 314 yards. Amazing!

Look how excited Freddie is!

Calvin Johnson had seven catches for 108 yards and 2 touchdowns. This was Calvins career first of at least 2 touchdowns receiving in 3 straight games.
Everyone played great. Brandon Pettigew, Titus Young (keep your eye on this rookie), Jahvid Best, Nate Burleson:), Kyle Vanden Bosch, Cliff Avril and Suh all had a good game. If something doesn't work they switch it up until it does and Matthew has learned to throw the ball away if there is no play available. They look like a real team!! This Sunday they're in Dallas. Really? If they pull that off then I think we may have ourselves a Superbowl team!

Playtime for Fred and Gloria

There's been lots of playtime for Fred and Gloria in the backyard this summer. It's usually short lived because of the heat. Gloria tends to peter out first, but she has started outsmarting Freddie by running with him for a bit and then as he keeps going, she stops and just lays down and waits for him to come around again, then attack.

Here's Fred running his butt off thinking Gloria is behind him. What a sucker!!

Her plan works perfectly every time!

"I'm telling Mom, Gloria!"

Oh dear, that just looks nasty!

Oh, the day in the life of a hound.

Get up
Poop
Pee
Eat
Drink
Play
Sleep
Repeat all of the above.
Oh yeah. Bat eyes of lovable self at Momma so she's putty in my hands.
Works every time!

Now here's a short playtime video.

I mean, come on! How cute are they! My Babies!

Dog Stories

I know it probably seems like I'm always writing about Freddie and poor Gloria hardly gets a bi-line. There's just not much to say about Gloria. She's just such a good girl that there's not much to write about unless of course I compare her to Fred. I'm not saying she's boring, just very well mannered and not as animated as Fred. For instance if I take a picture of her sleeping today it would look just like a picture I took yesterday or last week or a month ago. She is very consistent. Fred, he never sleeps the same way twice. He's very animated, dramatic and has LOTS of attitude. This makes him very photogenic. About the only thing they do the same is........

drink water

and...

make their Momma feel like dirt when she leaves the house without them.

Other than that they have nothing in common aside from being bassets. Gloria doesn't go in the garden and eat plants, she doesn't dig, she doesn't jump on people, she doesn't chew things she's not supposed to, she lets me cut her nails and clean her ears and she actually comes when called. Okay, fine, she lets out some pretty good rippers when she's sleeping, but other than that she is the perfect dog. We love her.
Fred, he's always in the garden eating plants. He digs, jumps on people, chews anything and everything, runs away when I try to cut his nails, runs away when I try to clean his ears and runs away when you call him. He's a bugger! We love him.

Oh, Gloria tries. Just the other night she ran out the door and jumped up on the new patio love seat (where of course mister dramatic usually lays).

Look at her. She's such a rebel!

And Freddie, well all I can say is.......

No more Vampire Diaries for you!

Where Does the Time Go?

So much to write about and so little time.

There's lots to write about including spring being here and the never ending cold wet weather. Our huge maple tree that we had taken down from our backyard recently (bittersweet experience). The new lawn we're getting laid. The family being sick. The NFL draft. (Detroit is gonna be a contender for sure!) Sorry Seattle but you needed a quarterback. (Ya coulda been a contender!) And of course as always the hounds, 'cause they're a part of all of it!

I'm going to start with..........what else! The Hounds!

I try to take my camera with me when they are having their playtime outside. (which has been far and few between because of all the rain) When they are out they have a blast and I have accumulated a few pictures so I'm just going to post them.

I like to call this series of pics, "The Basset Ballet"

Hounds in motion.

Freddies wrinkles in motion.

I think this picture speaks for itself!

Dueling bassets

Where is he? Where is he?

Oh, Izza comin' Gloria. Don't you worry your droopy little self now!

And the graceful finale!!

Okay, maybe not so graceful, but never the less a finale!

That's All Folks!!
