Ya......right!
I don't know how you are supposed to stop a two year old basset hound or any dog for that matter from running and playing. Both of these videos I took on the weekend when we got home from our walks!
He doesn't go for long, but he just has so much energy built up and has to get it out. I figure he can't be in too much pain when he's doing that or he'd stop. I just can't wait for his appointment on Thursday as I have so many questions to ask this surgeon, like how do I stop him from running around? As a matter of fact I am writing them down so I don't forget!
Thanks to Alfie's Blog, Snoopy's Dog Blog, My Brown Newfies and Luna, A Dog's Life for hosting the Monday Mischief blog hop!
Yep, how can you stop them from having fun?
ReplyDeleteHe sure forgets his condition...
How he and Gloria do not knock things off the table is a miricle. Do you have the stuff super glued down? Made me want to join in the fun. They both made me smile. So fun to see them playing. Happy Thanksgiving to you!!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Goose
Great videos, they're having so much fun! It's so funny to me that they can just walk right under the coffee table...Elka's belly nearly clears ours!
ReplyDeleteFinn's always a little high strung after her walks too. Good luck on Thursday!
ReplyDeleteThose videos are just too sweet - W & S love to play like that too, especially just before bed time. Good idea re: writing down your questions, I get so flustered when I am with doctors and vets I forget half of what I wanted to ask.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck for Thur.

It really MUST be hard to keep Freddie from being all crazy after walks!! We are exactly the opposite...we usually take a nap right after our walk! Great Videos! xoxo Chloe and LadyBug
ReplyDeleteHave you thought about sitting on him?!! Happy Thanksgiving! Deccy x
ReplyDeleteWe are so pleased to see Freddie is feeling happy enough to play!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the surgeon, we used to do that when we took hubby to hospital. My memory is hopeless - the best of luck with him.

yep, he looks like he's full of beans. And can't be in too much pain. Trying to keep him quiet looks impossible.
ReplyDeleteXXXOOO Daisy, Bella & Roxy
BWHAHAHAHAHAHA...okays now DAT is da Freddie I knows...OMD, I loves seein' him back to himself, it makes me all giddy.
ReplyDeleteUmmmm, how comes you ain't got no junk layin' around your house?
Puddles
Have a lovely Thanksgiving Monday. Please let us know how you get on at the vets on Thursday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
Yeah I do think its going to be a bit impossible to keep a 2 year old from playing. Happy Thanksgiving
ReplyDeleteurban hounds
Clearly it is all Gloria's fault. :p
ReplyDeleteIt looks to me like Fred is compensating very well. I think you are right that if he was in a lot of pain he would not do that. The dog I mentioned with severe dysplasia was not able to do that kind of running. In fact just walking was difficult and she would sit down a lot.
What we have been doing with Thunder is putting him on lead and let him drag it or crate him to slow him down. He is not supposed to run with the cast and he is OK in the house, but outside, not so much so we walk him for potty.
I am anxious to hear what the specialist says. I wonder if he will want more films?
Hope you get your questions answered from the specialist. Poor Fred but I don't think he would be playing chase with Gloria if he was hurting - dogs just need to have fun :-) woofs and licks from Magic xx
ReplyDeleteIt is hard - we were told the same thing with Denny and trying to keep a 1 year old bouncy dog calm is impossible. I can not even imagine how we are going to do that for 6 weeks after his surgery - they recommend with get a child's play pen and keep him confined to that after his surgery - I think he will get so bored he will chew his way out of it....I am sure you getting to have the same issues with Freddie too - but it will be worth it to know our boys will be better.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving! We're sending good thoughts your way for Thursday's vet appointment.
ReplyDeleteIt is great to see that he is able to play. I have had vets tell me to that before and it is nearly impossible! Good luck and thinking of you as your appointment draws nearer. Hailey and Zaphod's Lady
ReplyDeleteLovely videos. Having fun is part of life and Freddie knew it very well!
ReplyDeleteIt's good to see him happy!
ReplyDeleteSam
He still needs his mad half hour, I agree, he must feel OK to play.
ReplyDeleteSure dont' have any advice on keeping a hound quite. But at least he wants to play some. I would think he knows what he can do and can't do. Guess you didn't get one of those "couch potato" bassets either. BOL :) Sniffs, The HoundDogs
ReplyDeleteWoof! Woof! In a way its good the he is playing. Happy MM n Canada Thanksgiving. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! I'm sure he's in pain, but little kids do the same thing. They often forget the pain when there's play. Good for him!
ReplyDeleteLooks like they are having a lot of fun!
ReplyDeleteLovies, Miss Mindy
Freddie Spaghetti! You better follow the vet's orders! LOL-he is so darn adorable!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the others that said if he was in a lot of pain he wouldn't be playing. I am thinking the vet may suggest crating him, or do the baby play pen thing that someone else mentioned. They often suggest keeping them in their crates more.
ReplyDeleteI am anxious to hear what the surgeon has to say. You are wise to write your questions down, they tell people to do that with regular doctors too
I agree - it's SO hard to keep a pup quiet. Had to try with both my current pup and my last one. It's next to impossible - without benadryl! :P
ReplyDeleteHappy Canadian Thanksgiving!
Woofie valium? Calming treats?
ReplyDeleteGosh, he sure looks happy though.
ReplyDeleteHappy Canadian Thanksgiving!
The only thing that stopped my Lily was jail in the kitchen
ReplyDeleteBenny & Lily
That Gloria is pretty spunky too. I love seeing them have so much fun. I also love how they get under the coffee table. So hopeful for you and Freddie when you go see the doctor. Paws crossed and prayers.
ReplyDeleteHmmm... I thought I posted a comment earlier. Anyway... I just wanted to say how wonderful it is to see Freddie have so much fun and playing -- it makes my heart smile. :)
ReplyDeleteWoofs & huggies! <3
~Bailey (Yep, I'm a girl!)
YOu almost don't want to stop them!
ReplyDeleteNola
You can't keep a good dog down, huh Freddie!!
ReplyDelete~Higgins
I've wondered the same thing when I've had a dog who was supposed to stay on bed rest. Bed rest--yah right!
ReplyDeleteAw! He's so happy, how could you stop that? Especially if its just for a few minutes!
ReplyDeleteThe only thought I had was maybe trying to keep him off the slippery floor. Better traction hopefully would help his legs not slip out form under him.
Hi Y'all!
ReplyDeleteJust stoppin' by to say "hi" .
Glad to see Freddie feelin' better. Pain meds are marvelous!
Also wanted to wish you a great Thanksgiving...a wee late! My Human says this was always such a beautiful time of year around Burlington and Toronto. Hope y'all had a wonderful day and lots of good food to celebrate!
Humans have been busy doing and going, plus computer "malfunctions" at most inopportune times. ..so I've really been missin' y'all! But I am havin' new adventures to relate to y'all!
Y'all come by now,
Hawk aka BrownDog
Ha ha ha! If you find out the secret to keep them from running around, please share it with all of us!
ReplyDeleteHey Fred, Hey Gloria, Jet here. Hi Miss Janet.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Bunny above, if you figure this out, you'll fund the Freddie Fund in a snap!
We enjoyed seeing Fred and Gloria in action, they're spunky!
Mom asked me to share that she does the same thing: writing things down so she won't forget and has something concrete to refer back to later! Mom keeps wondering if hydrotherapy could help drain Fred's energy. (maybe in the tub???)
I hooted when Fred gave Gloria a chomp in the butt to get her going in the first video. In the second I was thinking Gloria was sure getting a work out with all that back and forth.... then Freddie started it in earnest. Whew! Know it has to worry you with Freddie having all that energy.
ReplyDeleteWhen Tucker had his acl surgeries we created enclosed spaces for him. (Couldn't bear to crate him) At first very, very small, eventually larger. We didn't allow any actual contact with the other dogs. Walked him on a leash for short potty breaks. It was not easy to keep him quiet the first time - after the pain was pretty much gone. The first surgery was in another state and we had the fantastic option of hydrotherapy. Oh, how I wish you could do that!
I just had to smile - look at Freddie go!
ReplyDeleteIt's so good to see dear Freddie having fun! :D
ReplyDeleteOh Fred you do make us laugh :)
ReplyDeleteSending big slobbers and love your way!
Slobbers
I think Gloria is the instigator ;) Those are great videos!!
ReplyDeleteI love seeing the two of them playing, but it makes me cringe lately when I see Fred bouncing around on that leg! I think he bears through a lot of the pain since he's had it for all of his life pretty much, so he probably doesn't know any better. I=Although, I do think he's noticing lately that it's getting more painful and he's being cautious of when to play and when not to ;)
ReplyDeleteHey Freddie,
ReplyDeleteSo glad you're still able to have fun (and Mischief) Dude :)
Big wags,
Your pal Snoopy :)
