Wordless Wednesday - Waiting For The Comfy Chair

.......and waiting............

I'd like to thank everyone for all your well wishes for our granddaughter Emma.  She is doing very well and we are so glad she is home!

I know this is "Wordless Wednesday" but since it's my first real post in a few weeks it was hard to keep my mouth shut.  Oh heck, who am I trying to kid.......it's hard to keep my mouth shut anyway!  hehehe

I going to take the next few days and try to catch up on everybody's blogs. I know I've missed a lot. We will also be sharing some of the highlights of Freddie and Gloria opening their gift exchange pressies from Wally and Sammy so stay tuned!

Happy New Year!

I just thought I'd do a quick post to wish everyone a Happy New Year. I haven't been on the computer nor have I felt like it so I thought I'd give a quick update as to why. Our New Year has turned out extra special as we can thank God our little granddaughter Emma is still with us.  We almost lost her in the wee hours of Christmas morning.  She contacted a virus that turned into pneumonia which triggered a life threatening asthma attack.  Emma wouldn't be here now if it wasn't for the fact that her Mom (Brandi) was so worried about her after having her to emerg twice (the last time just getting home at 5:30 p.m. Christmas Eve) that she took her into their bed Christmas Eve and seeing she was in distress rushed her back to emergency at 2:30 a.m. because she couldn't breathe, the doctor and team in Woodstock worked on her and saved her life. Once they got her stable they sent her by ambulance to Sick Kids in London where she then had an allergic reaction to the meds they gave her and spent 3 days in ICU before being moved to the pediatric ward. She is now home and still recovering but it is something we will never forget. I still feel a little shaken and tear up very easily.  We are looking at this as the best Christmas and New Year's we have ever had as we are so grateful we still have our Emma!

This was Emma the day before she came home from the hospital after they removed most of the tubes and wires. Her Mom sent me a picture from her phone so I could see she was okay. She was such a little trooper through the whole ordeal.  Five days after Christmas when she was able to come home she sang Christmas carols all the way home because she thought it was Christmas day.  And I'll tell you it was the best feeling in the world to see her, as weak as she was, to be so excited to come home and open her presents with her family.

This was Fred and Gloria waiting for Emma.  Little do they know it will be awhile before they can see her.

I'll probably be back to my regular blogging and catch up next week but while I'm gone remember, life can change in an instant, so go give the ones you love a great big hug!

Happy New Year from all of us to all of you!

Guess Who?

Look who came to town and stopped at our house!

Freddie was just in awe while Gloria was a little reserved. Next stop for Santa was to see the Grandbabies.

Below is Emma with Santa last Christmas.

Is this not your typical "kid with Santa" shot or what! LOL!

Next is a picture of Emma with Santa Thursday night.

Amazing the difference a year can make!

I even got in on the action and look what he brought for us.

Snow! Yay!!!

Christmas Ornament #22

This cute Santa we bought about 12 years ago because............well, he's SANTA!

Now that Christmas is almost here, try to go and relax for a bit and help yourself to one of my goodies.

Ho! Ho! Ho!

My Day

Well it's 2:14 a.m. and Freddie's been having a restless night after his long day. He slept for a bit then woke whimpering and whining so hubby went off to the couch and I laid here massaging his hips until he fell back to sleep.  He has now curled up between my legs and is out like a light and Gloria is snoring on hubby's side of the bed now.

Note: You know your a blogger when you've not only got your laptop in bed, but your camera!

I on the other hand am now awake so, what the heck, I may as well post about my day!

My daughter and granddaughter came over to have lunch with me today and we dug out all my boxes of Halloween decorations.  I have tons.  I used to decorate the house every year when the kids were growing up and we used to have Halloween parties. But now I just focus more on Christmas. So I am passing the hallowed torch on to my daughter. When we started going through the decorations, Emma (my granddaughter) was afraid of all the scary ones. Hmmmm....this is no good...it's Halloween, you've got to have some scary.  So after making skeletons dance, spiders into bling and witches shoes seem like the new fashion, she soon thought all that scary stuff was pretty neat and was pushing a giant rat around in a white wicker buggy. I didn't get a picture as we just wanted to let her do her thing and not draw attention to her.  Little did we know that she would actually grow an attachment to this said freaky rat and would not part with him when she left.

So off she went.

With the freaky rat.

Or as she now calls it........Honey Bear.  Hey, somebody's got to love the freaky ones!

Once they left Freddie was in quite a mood.

When I came in the house he was coming down the hall with a baby doll.

"You're going to get in trouble Freddie."
"Nuh uh! I've got Momma wrapped around my paw right now. I just have to give her my sad look."

Freddie just has so much pent up energy that he needs to get out since he can't run and play any more.  I have been walking him a couple of times a day to wear him out a bit and keep his muscles in his legs built up, but sometimes that just isn't enough.  He will try to run through the house, but soon realizes his legs can't take that.

So he steals things.

"What? I'm building a house for the baby!"

I find if I just walk away, he usually just stops and drops what he's got. Usually!

So, lunch was over, the Halloween torch was passed and Freddie had dropped the toys.  I took the hounds out back to go potty and when I walked out the door.....

This giant freakin' spider was hanging from the eaves trough and I screamed like a little girl!

So......how was your day?

Well, good night everyone. I'm off to the land of...........Pinterest! (Thought I was going to sleep, didn't ya!)

Monday Mischief - Cake

Hubby and I took advantage of Earth Hour saturday night and used it for a romantic interlude.  It was great having the whole house in candle light.  We opened up a bottle of french wine we got from a friend at Christmas.  It was a  2009 Lavau, Gigondas. Thanks John, it was great!

Sunday, Cameron and Emma came over and helped bake an apple cake for Gloria's Gotcha Day.

Cameron did the stirring while Emma added ingredients.

They both love to bake.

Fred and Gloria watched with eager eyes.

Then everyone waited for it to come out of the oven!
You can see the cake and the recipe here.
Fred was acting just a little put out that Gloria was getting all the attention.

"Ha! You call that a party? Just wait until the 19th!"

Yes, our little boy will be two on the 19th.

Fred and Emma

It's no secret that it hasn't been easy with our grandbabies and the dogs.  We've always had a dog, but for some reason the grandkids have been afraid.  Getting through Fred's puppy period with the grandkids has been a challenge. They didn't understand that Fred just wants to play and Fred didn't understand why they wanted nothing to do with him.  So most of the time when the grandkids were over we would gate Fred off in the hallway or kitchen.  You can see an older post about it here.

Funny thing is it's mainly the boys who are afraid.  We now have three grandsons, Mitch, Cameron and Jaron and one granddaughter, Emma.  Emma is the brave one.  She has always tried to pet Fred and Gloria.  We thought a good way to get them used to each other was to leash Fred when they were here so she could see him but we still had control.  Next all we had to do was leave the gentle leader on him and he would behave.

Now when I babysit Emma, Fred will actually behave himself without the leader on.  All I have to do is show him the gentle leader and he will behave.  So yes, our Freddie is growing up!  It helps that the grandbabies are getting a little bigger too!   So here are some "eureka" moments from babysitting Emma yesterday.  Proof that Emma and Fred have officially become friends!

Giving Fred a belly rub.

Trying to decide if she should let him see Diego or not.

Deciding it's okay.

Changing her mind.  (typical girl heehee!)

You know your friends when the dog sticks his tongue in your ear!

                                                          "Come on Grandma!"
Do you think Emma was getting a little tired of me snapping pictures? BOL!

Our Prize!

The calendar we won from Sugar The Golden Retriever's giveaway back the end of January finally came! It's a Maui Humane Society calendar where Sugar was 8th in the Runners Up for the People's Choice.

They had the 10 Runner Ups pictured in the middle of the calendar.
Since I was babysitting my grandbaby Emma I thought I have her point out Sugar.

Emma just wanted to keep pointing to the kitty cat beside Sugar. But after several attempts, I finally got her to point to Sugar.

"There!" "Are you happy now Grandma!"

What a great picture. I really think Sugar would have made a great June or July!

Along with the calendar were two new collars from Sugar's Paw House for Fred and Gloria.

Gloria was so excited because she'll finally have something girlie! Thanks again Sugar!

Fred did great with Emma and it was the first time he has been off his lead while grandkids were here.

He only tried jumping up once.
Progress!
