Fred Ate Crud

Freddie wasn't feeling good yesterday.  I knew it was going to happen and was just waiting for it 'cause Sunday he'd been eating crud out of the garden.  Then when he wouldn't eat his supper Sunday night, I knew for sure it was going to be a long night. Fred is very vocal about things and when he's sick it is no different.  He just whines.....a lot.  Was I surprised when I had to take him out at 3:00 a.m. to go potty.  No.  His stomach had been squeaking all night and he was whining and couldn't get comfortable.  And there's nothing worse than when your outside in the dark while your dog is going potty and all you can hear are those squeaky squirting noises coming out of his butt!  Yes, it was going to be a long night!

So this is how Fred spent most of Monday.

Whining........ "Ughhhhhhh.....my tummy hurts! Momma do something!"

I did feel really bad for him, he really didn't look good. The first thing I had to do was try and get him to eat something, 'cause now he's missed two meals and it just makes his stomach worse.  So I tempted him with some cheese which he wouldn't take at first until he saw Gloria was going to take it.  Once he ate a few small pieces, I gave him some Pepto Bismol.

Then he went back laying and whining. He just has to be so darn dramatic about it! Geesh!

It was so nice when he finally fell asleep and the whining stopped. Whew! That's enough to drive you batty!

By the afternoon I knew he was feeling better when he followed his nose out to the kitchen to see what I was cooking.  So I gave him his kibble and he ate it right down. Now I could finally quit worrying!

Hmmm.....maybe he planned the whole thing to keep my mind off of Barney....nah!

P.S. - Fred's in a photo contest and could use your votes! You can find it here http://www.prestigiouspuppy.com/photo-contest/april-photo-contest/

Can't Sleep

I can't sleep.  I have a cold. (sniff, sniff)  Oh, I've tried.  I've layed in there for two hours trying to suppress my cough so I could get to sleep and not bother Steve.  But you know how it goes, the more you try to stop coughing; the more you cough.  Then Gloria was snoring to beat the band and I rolled over and Fred's paw was in my face.  His back paw.  And..........where there's a back paw, there's a butt.   So, I gently folded the blankets over his little tush (I wanted to say lard a#@ but thought, nah.)  Well, then I started to get itchy.  You know how you get one little itch and then the next thing ya know your itchy everywhere and that's all you can think about.  When your sick and  menopausal to boot , you can't shut your brain off and you think of all sorts of things while you lay there.  For some reason I thought of this.

It's a picture that Becki from AutumnBlazeBassets took of Freddie sticking his tongue out when he was little.

So, I got up. Got my computer turned on thinking I'd have some quiet time (besides the hacking and coughing).  Then the hounds got up.  'Cause they won't stay in bed without their Momma.(awwwe!)  Then they had to go out and do their business.  Then because ole Freddie had a giant poop, he was all fired up and wanted Gloria to play.  She said no.  So now he is under the coffee table ripping apart a kleenex he stole from the box on my nightstand.  Me being tired, sick, menopausal and itchy; I just looked at him and said, "You go Freddie!"  So now here we are, the three of us.  Fred ticked off that know one will play, going nuts on a kleenex, Gloria, now snoring on her bed beside the couch and me coughing and itching, trying to drink a warm cup of tea while having a huge hotflash!  And that folks is what goes on at our house at 1:13 a.m.

And yes, Freddie is still sticking out his tongue!

Well, at least Stevie is getting some sleep!

Busy Week

First, my baby girls' baby girl got sick.

Then my baby girl got sick.

Then my baby girls' son got sick.

So, what's a Momma/Grandma to do? Cook of course! Why, because just like when my kids were little, I still feel helpless when their sick. So like any good loving mother I would always cook and try to cram food into them to make them healthy. Now I have grandbabies to worry about, too. So, I cook. It makes me feel like I'm doing something constructive and keeps me busy while I worry. I made some homemade chicken stock so I could use it in my chicken pot pie to give them. That's not only healthy, it's comfort food. I think their over the worst of it now though. (homemade pot pie,no?) Thank goodness the worrying can slow down now.

Then of course Freddie got sick this week too!

Ahhhhh......I don't feel well. Do something Momma!

Yes, he is very dramatic, which is why he fits into this family so well.
And you can see how thrilled I was with Mr. Dramatic.

He seemed depressed at first, then he didn't eat for a day, then he had the chills. Maybe he had a bug or maybe it was from the crud he ate outside (lilac bush, bird poop, licking pee etc.) or possibly the crud he ate inside (half his christmas tree toy, stuffing from his hippo, the carpet underpad he pulled up etc. etc.)or maybe it was just from trying to hump that snow bank. All I know is then I was worried about my Freddie Spaghetti, too! So I coddled him and catered to his every whim. Wait a minute....I do that all the time anyway! Well, I guess I did it even more (if that's possible) Anyway, it just tugged at my heart seeing him looking all woefull, lying on the couch bundled up with my Detroit Lions blanket.

Well, I am happy to say that after acting like he was half dead for two days.

Need I say more?

He is back to his old little bugger of a self. Whew!

There's my little ray of sunshine!

I just don't like it when family is sick!!
