Soul Dust
My sister and her husband lost not one dog this year but two. Jessi in March at the age of 18.
and Tiki this month at the age of 14
It is always such a tragedy to lose ones dog; best friend. I know from experience the heartache and guilt you feel when the time comes for you to make that painful decision not to be selfish and let them go. They're not here for a long time (compared to humans)but the impact they leave on us, lives on for ever. They teach us how to be patient, while being patient with us. They teach us how to be more compassionate, while being so compassionate with us. They help us bring back the genuine laughter that we had when we were young. All the while loving us unconditionally, being happy with us, being sad with us, and showing us just how big our hearts can grow. That is why when they leave us our hearts ache with so much emptiness. Emptiness that we think can only be filled with our best friends we lost. Then we realize they are still there in our hearts and the emptiness we feel is the extra space they've made in our hearts for that unconditional love of a dog.
So here's to Jessi and Tiki for the extra room they made in my sister and brother- in-laws hearts for another.
And for sprinkling some of their "soul dust" on Izzy.
Welcome Izzy.
Your in good hands!

Fred Having a Teenage Moment
"Woes me!" "It used to be just me and Momma." "There's our picture." "We were so happy!"
"Do you remember, Momma?"
"Argggg.......I think I'm gonna die!"
"Oh, Freddie, quit being so dramatic."
Rawhide
One of the ongoing dilemmas with Fred and Gloria is their rawhide bones. No matter how many they have laying around they always want the rawhide chew that the other one has. Maybe it just tastes better with someone else's slobber on it. I don't know and for obvious reasons, will never know. Gloria always wins out and has the "favourite" rawhide, well, 'cause she can just get down right nasty when it comes to defending the rawhide. Becki at Autumn Blaze Bassets already warned us when we got her that she really defends her rawhide. Most times she just gives ole Freddie "the look" and he backs off and just sits and whines. If your a female of any age you all know what "look" I'm talking about. I think all women are just born knowing how to give "the look".
Here Fred tries to distract Gloria with a tickle fight.
He tries to keep her mind off the slippery, slimy rawhide.
"Oh Gloria, your so much fun!" "I just love playing with you......blah,blah, blah."
When she is finally distracted...............
.....he moves in on the rawhide.
"Got it!"
"Gloria!" "Gloria!" (whine, whine) "Don't look at me that way!"
"Mommmmmm!"
"Rats....I'm going to eat some dirt!"

Where Does the Time Go?
So much to write about and so little time.
There's lots to write about including spring being here and the never ending cold wet weather. Our huge maple tree that we had taken down from our backyard recently (bittersweet experience). The new lawn we're getting laid. The family being sick. The NFL draft. (Detroit is gonna be a contender for sure!) Sorry Seattle but you needed a quarterback. (Ya coulda been a contender!) And of course as always the hounds, 'cause they're a part of all of it!
I'm going to start with..........what else! The Hounds!
I try to take my camera with me when they are having their playtime outside. (which has been far and few between because of all the rain) When they are out they have a blast and I have accumulated a few pictures so I'm just going to post them.
I like to call this series of pics, "The Basset Ballet"

Hounds in motion.
Freddies wrinkles in motion.
I think this picture speaks for itself!
Dueling bassets
Where is he? Where is he?
Oh, Izza comin' Gloria. Don't you worry your droopy little self now!
And the graceful finale!!
Okay, maybe not so graceful, but never the less a finale!
That's All Folks!!
