The Nose Conspiracy

First let me say the stents they put in my nose are out! Yay! I didn't realize just how big those suckers were. Ugh!  Okay enough of that.  Since my nose could be up to six months until it is completely healed I may as well share the story of how I got here. Last September I had a bad cold.....

"Oh, geez!  Here we go!"

......and one day when I was walking into the living room and Freddie was finally sleeping and not being a bugger was fast asleep on the couch, I looked at him and you know those times when they look so sweet and innocent when they're sleeping, kind of like the picture below, and you just want to snuggle them.  I smiled and bent down to give him a kiss on the head.......

and apparently scared the crap out of him.  He jumped up and whacked me in the nose.

"blah,blah,blah........"

Well, my nose hurt for a few weeks but I thought I'd probably just bruised it.  I had a hard time breathing through it, but I figured that was just my cold.

Turns out my cartilage was twisted from the trauma.  So after trying different medications the last option was surgery to remove some cartilage and turbinate from one side of my nose.

"And you wonder where I get my dramatics! Don't let the door hit ya on the way out when your done your story Momma."

Since I haven't been able to be on the computer much I've been trying to get some crocheting done. Miss Mindy's Momma, Gloria over at Hood's Happenings, sent me this wonderful crochet hook. She molds and bakes the handles right on to make them easier on your hands for crocheting.  I just love it!!  She also sent me instructions so I can do my own handles. How cool is that!

I made my first pair of crocheted slippers.

They went a lot faster than knit ones for me and I think they turned out pretty good. So that is the whole nose story.  I can already breath better through it.  Once the swelling is gone it should be amazing!

"I really do feel bad Momma. Oh, but  before you go........"

"Can you pass me another bon bon!"

Seeing Goose's wonderful uplifting post today has inspired me to join the "See Beautiful" blog hop that is the second Friday of every month.

  1. Glad the stents are out. They are bigger than you think, that is true. While I did not cause my MOM's nose problems I did knock a tooth out of her mouth. You peeps really should not sneak up on us to give us a kiss. Keep getting better Freddie's momma. And Fred make sure you give her a kiss on the nose, it will heal faster.

  2. Phew, thank goodness that you are feeling better now and able to breathe (you know, one of those pesky required for living things! ;-P)! I might be small, but Domeek says that I'm going to give her a concussion one day, cause I love to head bang! Freddie has the funniest "I couldn't care a less" expressions! :-D

  3. Freddie...your many, many poses on the couch just crack us up!!! Our mom also crochets (only blankets though, she hasn't figured out how to move beyond this basic stage) and thinks that crochet handle your mom got is very cool, not to mention those slippers she made - they look like they'll keep her feet nice and toasty this winter.

You and Gloria must have a grrrreat weekend!

  4. Yikes. Freak accidents like that are weird. I had my car keys in my hand the other day and reached up to scratch my nose. The key was pointing upwards and I ended it up jamming up my nose. It started bleeding everywhere. Go figure.

  8. Crikey, I didn't know that it was Fred who had bashed you in the nose - isn't that typical of our 'beloved pets', LOL. Hope your poor nose is feeling a bit better, it must have been a horrible experience.
Your slippers are wonderful, I just made a pair for hubby and me the other week, he has worn them to the extent there are holes in them now!

  21. Oh man, that sounds painful. My Vickie breaths through her nose when she sleeps so if I ever did that to her, she would never sleep and oh that would be tragic for all of us.

  40. Oh wow that is quite a tale. Sounds like something that would happen to me. When Thunder was little he would always jump just as I was bending down to put a collar and lead on him. I got clunked good a few times, but nothing like what happened to you. Glad you are feeling better. The slippers turned out great!

  48. That is quite a story - the "nose story". Your photos of Freddie with his commentary made it really funny!

One time, I leaned down to kiss K just as she jumped upward to kiss me. The result was a chipped front tooth for me. You just can't hold it against such cute and lovable dogs as Freddie and K, can you?

I'm glad that you're finally getting better!

  49. Hey Bassetmomma,

You are hilarious!! You really had me chuckling with your story, I even relayed to Dad!! Freddie's captions were so funny! Makes me realize how lucky Mum was when I whacked her on the nose with my head a few months ago - phew!!

I have a question, are those slippers for Freddie? Tee Hee

    Wags to all,

    Your pal Snoopy :)

  50. Oh Momma, sorry about your Schnoz! Freddy you are a DELIGHT!

    Slobbers

  51. Ow, that's awful, so glad you're feeling better! Love the pictures of Freddie with the captions. The first time I broke my nose was when I tried to step over my parents' dog and she stood up, tripping me so I smashed my face on the cement step.

My grandmother used to make slippers like that every year for us for Christmas. She would sew suede soles on them so they would last through the year. They were great until the year she used smooth red vinyl, which turned them into slick Slippers of Death! I think we all fell down the stairs a few times that year.

    ReplyDelete
  52. OUCHIES!!! How awful! Poor Momma! You should give her a LOT of extra cuddle time to help her feel better.

Those slippers look great! Nice and soft and comfy. Perfect for the winter! You sure are talented!

I gotta say, those are some ADORABLE pictures! :D

  53. Oh, OW! I saw that coming when you mentioned a) your nose and b) the sweetly sleeping dog. ;) I suspect we have all been bonked in the nose by our lovely canines. Sorry you had to be the over-achiever and actually do real damage.

Love those little slippers. (And that first picture of Freddie is to die for. ;)
