Monday Mischief - Life Goes On

I'm glad to have the past few weeks behind us.  Now we can just settle into a routine and get back to normal (whatever that is!).  So Life goes on just like a roll of toilet paper.

Yep, Freddie's at it again!  No matter where I put the roll of toilet paper he manages to get it.  He had completely stopped this for the summer and now he just struts through the house scanning counter tops, tables, dressers anything, just looking for something to snatch! Here he is scanning the table top.

"Look at me Gloria."  "I got bad hips, so I can do what I want!"

Then he just flops in the chair and acts like he owns the place. Well.....actually...... he does.

"Geesh, Momma!"  "At least let me cover my wiener before you take the picture! "

And Gloria well.......

"I'm sick of Freddie!" "I'm joining the circus!"

She's started practicing to be a circus dog act. Apparently she's tired of all the attention Fred's been getting over this hip stuff. I keep telling her that she'd never make it travelling around from town to town without her family but hey, a girl's gotta have dreams I guess!

Question for anyone who gives there dog fish oil supplements.  Could you recommend something as I have no clue what to get for Freddie.

Now this is a little late but in answer to Dip- Dip & the Bridge and Declan's question "What is a pack rat?" from an earlier post;  a pack rat is a hoarder, someone who keeps everything and can't part with things which is apparently me now!

  1. Aw, Gloria makes the best "dubious" faces, and Freddie looks like he needs a can of beer in that lounging picture.

Interestingly, Elka's surface-scanning is how we taught her "bring it here" when she was a puppy. It was clearly easier than keeping the coffee table bare, or trying to chase her down!

  2. Woof! Woof! Golden LAUGHS, Freddie. Circus really? Happy MM. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar

  3. Freddie Fredie you the dog! Gloria girl you would not want to join the circus. You think Fred is a clown? You would be surounded by clowns if you joined the circus.

  4. You guys are such a funny family! I totally respect Freddie's R&R style, looking comfy dude! So, my vet thought that I should check out the fish oil too...we're looking at Nordic Naturals® Omega-3 Pet® Oil Supplement Liquid and Soft Gels...they have good reviews and Dr. Foster and Smith sell it online too.

  5. BOL - I would have thought a Basset would be too short to reach a counter top. I guess what they don't have in the legs they have in the body? Too funny!

  6. Mum gives me 1000mg cod liver oil a day plus 1500mg glucosamine. If you are just going to gave the fish oil maybe look at high strength omega 3 fish oil. Fred mate, you look like something out of Playgirl in that picture! Deccy x

  7. BOL!! Great post - "I have bad hips so I can do what I want" - so funny!
Perhaps if Gloria can't join the circus she could be a children's entertainer instead.
Looks like I might be a bit of a pack rat when it comes to fabric and yarn, I can barely move in the bedroom anymore.

  8. If you didn't see yesterdays post re missing furry friend can you pop by and see if you can help. Anything we can do will be greatly appreciated. Have a happy Monday.
    Best wishes Molly

  9. Laughing at Fred and Gloria :-) Did your vet mention glucosamine? Highly recommend it. When Tucker and Lucy began taking it we actually saw results (especially with Lucy), so Jeffie and Rudy take it routinely along with their regular vitamins. We use human grade fish oil.

  10. That Freddie. He does need to use up unspent energy!

  11. Our vet prescribed Metacam for our woofie who has hip problems. It does seem to help her but you must be careful about the dosage and only let the vet change it. Mom just puts a few drops on a small piece of bread and give it to her at breakfast each day. Great mischief!

  12. Oh Freddie you do make us laugh! But I know you've had a bad time just recently and that's nothing to laugh about really - hope the fish oil supplements help you feel better! woofs and licks from Magic xx

  17. I used to be really into stealing too but I out grew that hobby, mom misses it sometimes but my cat bro Bert has taken over, especially unrolling toilet paper!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Haha!! He's decided to milk it for all it's worth, huh?

I actually just buy human fish oil in bulk for my girls. If they don't like to take pills they make salmon oil for dogs that comes in a squirt bottle you can mix in their food. I think its "Grizzly Salmon Oil".

  19. BOL! I love those pictures of Freddie and Gloria; both of them are so sweet and cute. Freddie does look a king at home : )

Oh I still can't stop laughing at your "Life goes on just like a roll of toilet paper".

  20. I am telling you that Freddie and Dakota are two peas in a pod with their grabbing of things!

Ok today i am sending a special (((((hug)))))) to Gloria! And...KISSES TOO!xxxxx

  21. I popped in and read your post on Friday, your right , at least now you have a direction. If you give fish oil I recommend salmon oil. Don't buy stuff for pets, you will pay more. Salmon oil can be bought in little gel capsules that you puncture and put on the food. I was giving that to Roxy but it made her gain weight so I had to stop. They get coconut oil now. I agree with the glucosomine comment too. That seems the very best for bad hips, my vet recommended it for Roxy, but she was a little bit allergic to it so we quit that too.
    Good luck!

  22. I don't understand why they don't cover that thing up either....what are they thinking....ha ha! Joining the circus sounds like fun! Maybe I will join you but I will have to go to Clown School first....

  23. Freddie and Gloria you two are just precious. I love the Pack Rat explanation ... my DAD is a pack rat... and SO is Ernie.

  25. Gloria has THOSE big baby eyes that get me everytime!!

  26. Oh Freddie! You just have your Momma wrapped right around your paw! Love your surfing face.

Mom just ordered me a fish oil supplement (liquid) from 1800PetMeds called Omega 3. I'll let you know how that works out when we get it. It seems to be top-rated.

  27. My guys have been getting fish oil for quite a while now. Not only is it great for imflammation and joint lubrication, it is wonderful for their skin and coat. The most important thing is to buy it in capsule form. It can be bought in pump bottles but that oxidizes too quickly and can go rancid. I have bought mine from an online company called Springtime. Great products and customer service. But, you can just go to Costco (http://www.costco.com/Kirkland-Signature%E2%84%A2-Omega-3-Fish-Oil-Concentrate-1000-mg,-400-Softgels.product.11072245.html) or a discount drug store and buy a big bottle of fish oil. Wilson currently takes 2 of the costco 1000 mg in the am and 2 more in the pm in his meals. He weighs about 39 lbs. I would suggest phasing it in slowly so you don't end up w/ diarrhea. I would also suggest starting Gloria on some too. It will help her age gracefully. Fish Oil is preferred over Cod Liver Oil.

Sorry for the long post....dog food and supplements are one of my obsessions :-)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Second Taryn's comment - I love Springtime, good products (I use their Bug-Off Garlic). and Freddie? they're called "secondary benefits"; don't wear them out while you're "sick."

  29. BOL!!! You guys are just full of personality. Nicely done on covering your privates Freddie, you could teach my Zoe a thing or two.

    ReplyDelete
  30. This made me laugh, because BOTH Kori and Scarlett are just like Freddie. They constantly wander around the house, looking for things to steal! :) I'm so glad he is feeling well enough to be up to mischief!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I guess we know what Santa is bringing Freddie for Christmas!

I really like the Cod Liver Oil from Nordic Naturals, and it comes in capsules too

    ReplyDelete
  32. What is it with dogs and toilet paper rolls? They must have some kind of hidden agreement with the tp companies where they get extra treats for every toilet paper package we have to buy! Glad things are getting back to normal for you guys!

    ReplyDelete
  33. OMG that last picture of Freddie is awesome!
    Nola

  34. Oh, I can relate. I had a "I have cancer, so I can do what I want" doggy. I know how all that getting away with everything goes! (She owned our house too!)

    Great pics. So funny.

    ReplyDelete
  35. As if Fred wasn't spoiled enough....LOL. We ALL know that he owns that house ;) So glad to see he's starting up some more mischief again...and Gloria, as cute of an act as you'd make in the circus...you know you're a momma's girl and can't be without her!! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'll bet there are TONS of good smelling things at the circus. Mmmm!

    ReplyDelete
  37. BOL! So many personalities needing attention right now! As for fish oil, not sure but dad gave us each half of one for awhile but mom said we smelled so bad that he stopped. He just opened it and squirted it on our treat. We loved it!

    Your friends,

    Murphy & Stanley

  38. Hi, just catching up and so glad to hear that Freddie's hips are doing OK for now. Good news that nothing drastic needs to be done right away.

Take care of that boy, we'll be thinking of him AND Gloria. :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Life is good when Freddie is up to mischief and milking his bad hips. Way to go, Freddie! I love the foot stool that Gloria is using for her circus act practice.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Freddie, you do own the place. Gloria please don't join the circus because I would miss you!

We have given Thunder Fish Oil (for arthritis prevention due to his size). Just the stuff you buy for people. But when hubby was speaking to the orthopedic vet last week about supplements for Thunder, he said you can give over the counter supplements, but the problem is that they are not as precise as a pharmaceutical grade as far as dosing so you cannot be sure that the dog is actually getting a consistent dose. He was not saying to only give the pharmaceutical grade ones, just that we should consider it.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Oh Gloria! Don't worry beautiful, your mom's just a bit busy and will get back to treating you like a queen as soon as she can!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Figures...the males are always the big babys and they no how to play it for all its worth, haha

    ReplyDelete
  43. Oh my gosh those are great photos!! I hope you do reconsider joining the circus Gloria :)
I use Kirkland brand from Costco, 1000mg and my vet said to give the dose suggested on the bottle. I have noticed that the dose varies from brand to brand so I give my guys one twice a day and I actually pierce the cap and squirt it on their food.

  44. Dropping off lots of huggies for you!! It stinks to be in pain, and I hate how upset it makes my family when I cry out of the blue. My hip dysplasia is in the beginning stages, but my family worries A LOT about my future. I've been pretty good recently, but just earlier today I was laying down and cried out while holding my rear leg up -- that made my mommy and hu-sister sad. They gave me some medicine and I didn't cry for the rest of the day. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers, Freddie... I hope you never have pain.

    Woofs & huggies, <3

  45. Toilet paper thief! You wacko Fred.

Looks like you're getting some really good recommendations on fish oil...I will have to keep them on record for Lamar.

Lots of hugs and healing for your hips!

  46. Sending good vibes that all goes well for Freddie. You can usually find some helpful information on reliable internet sites. We've had some experience with autoimmune disorders but not hip problems.

  48. Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Sorry Freddie and Gloria, mum just had to let that out. You two are so darn adorable. We love the fact you search for stuffs Freddie. Keeps the peeps on their toes hehehe. Mum says we gave our angel sissy Kara, Fish Oil tablets cause she had the arthur rite us. It was just the same tablets that our mum and dad take. She had one or two every couple of days and we think it made her a little less stiff in her hips. See ya soon mates. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory

  49. I give Bert the human fish oil pills. He eats them right down with his meal. Like some of the others I just get the huge bottle full. But I like the idea of Salmon Oil someone talked about. I bet it even taste great to a dog.

Hey Freddie, don't forget (while your looking) to check out secret places on the ground too. The good stuff isn't always higher than our noses....

    Bert

  50. freddie, you sound like a certain white-furred schnauzer i know. she's always on the lookout for stuff to destroy.

our vet gave us fish oil for rocket's dry skin, we just paid for it at the vet's office. i'm not sure what the name was, since we no longer have it, but it was in a spray form. you just spray it on their food before eating.

Love seeing Fred up to his old mischief... and the modesty pic is hysterical.

  57. That picture of Freddie warms my broken heart. Thank you!!! Hope his hip gets fixed soon.

  58. Keeping our paws crossed for Freddie. And for Gloria and her circus career. No trapeze or trampoline though, young lady.

We use Vitacaps from Drs Foster & Smith, a good quality online source for lots of pet stuff, including meds. Keep the capsules in the fridge. Jed & Abby will eat the capsules, no problem, when they are just dropped in with their food. But you can also get liquid, if you prefer.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Toilet paper? Freddie you're a genius! I've only ever played with the cardboard tube after the rolls all done. I will try the whole roll now! Thanks pal :D
