Weeds, Weeds and More Weeds!

It's been really hot here again with no rain so I have spent the past few days weeding my overgrown gardens with the help of yours truly.

"I'm just gonna sit here and make sure these weeds don't go anywhere."

I stuck an umbrella in the weed bucket to give Freddie Spaghetti some shade since he wasn't smart enough to go lay in the shade he really wanted to help out. Gobble Guts Gloria just laid by the house in the shade all day.

My irises have just started blooming so I took some pictures after weeding. I just love them!

This purple and white king iris is my favorite.

It hasn't bloomed in years and it was actually my daughter who first noticed that it finally bloomed this year.

I think it is just so beautiful! The next ones are at the side of our house.

Purple and gold.

Can you tell I like purple flowers? After all the hard work and picture taking the hounds did get rewarded with some ice cubes.

And I got rewarded with a big gob of slobber!  Both hounds were pretty pooped by the end of the day.

Notice how Freddie Spaghetti always has his head in Gobble Guts Gloria's butt! Rest up 'cause there's lots more weeding to be done yet!

  6. That garden is/was overgrown? Wow, I wonder what we would call our garden then... an abundance of rampant flora perhaps... nope... a carpet of luscious green... (do they do carpets a foot high?)... or perhaps a haven for wildlife taking refuge in the magnificent hedges...

Just remenber, a weed is only a plant which is growing in the wrong place! he he Deccy x

  11. Your irises are BEAUTIFUL. Your backyard looks lovely, so you must have done some good work. I have tried for years to get enthusiastic about my yard and I've finally come to the realization that it's not going to happen. My new goal...have minimal planting and minimal work. I still have some weeding to do. You can't get away from it completely.

  13. Your Iris are really pretty! I have a few that bloom and each year I wish they had a longer show because I love just looking at the intricacy of the blossoms.

But weeding is hard work, so I'm glad Freddie Spaghetti & Gobble Guts Gloria are getting their rest, and I hope YOU are too--Those weeds really appear out of nowhere, don't they?

  17. Your irises are so pretty! Weeding is no fun!! We see lots and lots of irises down here. They're the state flower of Louisiana.

  18. I help MOM weed too. Most of the time I lay right next to her. But I do get up and move to the shade when I get to hot. But I make sure I can see her. Speaking of weeds. MOM just got off the phone with a friend who invited her to go with her on the 4th to a "Weed Walk". HUH? That's what I said. But I guess this other lady invited my friend and what she does is find weeds and she makes all her own medicine stuff and cooking stuff with it. I wonder if doggies could go too. Your flowers are lovely, MOM likes Iris' too.
    Blessings,

  19. My Vickie showed me how your two have taken over the bed properly. The human needs to remain on the outside edge of the bed leaving plenty of room for the dog (s) extra space to twist and turn through the night..

she loves your King Iris. My Vickie has one she has had for 15 years that only blooms every other year. It is candy orange. She cherishes that one too

  20. Hounds make great helpers aren't we? Mom's glad I'm not too much of a digger, but I tend to nibble the grass so she has to keep an eye on me. Your garden is beautiful, this weekend we'll be outside working in ours!

  25. Hey Freddie Spaghetti & Gobble Guts Gloria!
Wow, I don't blame you for being all dog-tired after all that work! Good thing you were there to snoopervise. Those irises are gorgeous. My Mom tries to grow them, but they just die. Not enough sun or something. Anyway, yours are very pretty and big too. BOL about those sleeping positions!

  30. Your irises are beautiful. I have to agree with Deccy; who decided that dandelions were weeds and not flowers? I was thinking that on Saturday while digging them out of the lawn.

  32. You have such a nice yard. The irises are beautiful. I bet Freddie Spaghetti was very helpful. ;)

We need rain here. There are a couple of big fires burning in the UP. It has been so dry up there. Sad.

  33. Wow - those purple and white ones are gorgeous! Some of ours have started to bloom but I've been too busy weeding and forgot to take any pictures. I'll have to get out there when the rain stops and hope my favorites are still in bloom.

    (Love the umbrella for Fred!)
