Girls Just Wanna Have Fun!

Becki from Autumnblazebassets.com
got some good shots of the "girls" playing in the snow. That's our Gloria (Freddie's soon to be big sister and the proud mother of the latest litter at Autumn Blaze Bassets, born Dec. 26/10) in the back and Freddie's "biological" Mom in the foreground. Boy does he look like his Mom! That's right Gloria, you run and frolick with the girls now 'cause in another month you'll have the Fredster to contend with!

Poor thing, she has no idea what she's in for. Don't worry we'll get ya through it!

I don't know, judging by this picture I think Gloria will be able to hold her own. Who does that wild eyed look remind you of?

I know I joke alot about Freddie Spaghetti, but ya know his wild puppy moments are far and few between. He really is a good boy (I figure if I say it enough it will come true. ha!ha!) He's still a puppy right now, but I've noticed lately that our little boy is growing up fast. The last couple of weeks he started shedding all his "puppy" fur along with his winter coat and now has his adult fur. It brings a tear to my eye, not as many tears as his neutering will bring, but a tear. I'm sure we will have a "Fred's Neutered" party after the 21st of March, kind of a "Good-bye Mr. Bo Dangles, Hello, droopy sac, I think I'll just go lay down now." Hey! I can dream can't I?

Well at least Gloria won't have to look at this!

Long Night with Freddie

My Poor Baby!

Last night when I took Freddie out to have a pee he slipped on the ice and hurt his hind leg. He had to be lifted into the house as his leg just dangled. Since I had to wait for him to see the vet this morning I did the only thing I could do cry....pretty much all night...and so did poor Freddie. Steve and I tried to comfort him the best we could, but he was in pain. It seemed like forever waiting to get him to the vets at 8:30 a.m. this morning and then I balled 'cause I had to leave him there. Thankfully Fred's a pretty sociable guy so he didn't seem to mind too much. Then we waited for the vet to call with a diagnosis. We've already been through one basset hound with a broken leg as Barney had broke his leg at 6 months old and required pins to fix it. So the wait was excruciating. Thankfully the vet called for us to come and get him. They did x-rays and found no broken bones or dislocation. He just sprained it really bad and will have to take it easy for awhile for it to recover. So, right now my poor baby is sleeping on the floor ('cause god forbid that's where he is going to have to sleep for awhile, not on our cushy bed)all drugged up with pain killers moaning and groaning. I can't thank Alanah from Yates Veterinary Hospital enough for taking my early call and tending so well to my Freddie. So, the next few days we will spend trying to keep Freddie Spaghetti slowed down. Wish us luck!

On A Lighter Note-

This past weekend Fred had so much fun as his Dad was home all weekend and spent some quality time with him.

Ya, I know, when Stevie's home it "all about Dad!" Forget MOM who caters to you, shares her toast and .......ah, sorry got carried away again. After all this is about Freddie, right then....back to the wonderful weekend with his Dad! They shared walks and play time in the snow. Starting to sound like a chick flick isn't it? All I need is some popcorn, chip, dip, chocolate and a nice cup of tea! Enough about me again.

Sometimes I wonder if Fred wasn't a greyhound in a former life.

Well, judge for yourself.

Here are some more of his "play date with Dad" pictures. A little dark as the sun was just going down but that's what I got.

By the way, apparently basset hounds bounce!

Yup, it's gonna be tough keeping him down.

I'm outta here!

Busy Week

First, my baby girls' baby girl got sick.

Then my baby girl got sick.

Then my baby girls' son got sick.

So, what's a Momma/Grandma to do? Cook of course! Why, because just like when my kids were little, I still feel helpless when their sick. So like any good loving mother I would always cook and try to cram food into them to make them healthy. Now I have grandbabies to worry about, too. So, I cook. It makes me feel like I'm doing something constructive and keeps me busy while I worry. I made some homemade chicken stock so I could use it in my chicken pot pie to give them. That's not only healthy, it's comfort food. I think their over the worst of it now though. (homemade pot pie,no?) Thank goodness the worrying can slow down now.

Then of course Freddie got sick this week too!

Ahhhhh......I don't feel well. Do something Momma!

Yes, he is very dramatic, which is why he fits into this family so well.
And you can see how thrilled I was with Mr. Dramatic.

He seemed depressed at first, then he didn't eat for a day, then he had the chills. Maybe he had a bug or maybe it was from the crud he ate outside (lilac bush, bird poop, licking pee etc.) or possibly the crud he ate inside (half his christmas tree toy, stuffing from his hippo, the carpet underpad he pulled up etc. etc.)or maybe it was just from trying to hump that snow bank. All I know is then I was worried about my Freddie Spaghetti, too! So I coddled him and catered to his every whim. Wait a minute....I do that all the time anyway! Well, I guess I did it even more (if that's possible) Anyway, it just tugged at my heart seeing him looking all woefull, lying on the couch bundled up with my Detroit Lions blanket.

Well, I am happy to say that after acting like he was half dead for two days.

Need I say more?

He is back to his old little bugger of a self. Whew!

There's my little ray of sunshine!

I just don't like it when family is sick!!

Disturbing Incident

WARNING- Some people may find this story offensive!

Yes, it's about Freddie. Who the heck did ya think it was gonna be about? Before I get to the "incident" though, take a look at this face

That's not just a face only a mother could love, that's a face everyone can love. Let me stress that on Freddie's "down" time he is the sweetest, most lovable, cuddly basset hound you could ever meet. He loves to give hugs and snuggle. He likes to give kisses too, but since he licks his own pee......yeah...that's not gonna happen! Yes, he thinks the world revolves around him. But why not with a face like that! So, now that you know just how sweet and lovable Freddie is........here have another look at that innocent face

I'll tell you about the "incident".

When I took Freddie for his walk last night (I would of wrote about it then but I was a too traumatized at the time) he did something I've never seen any dog do before. I don't really know how to say it, I don't think there is any polite way, so I'm just going to say it. Here goes.......Freddie humped a snowbank. Yep! That's right a snowbank! There I said it. He climbed halfway up a snowbank to have a poop; his weenie popped out and when it touched the side of the snowbank, he started to hump it. It was quite the sight! How he could poop and hump at the same time was beyond me, but he did it. At first I think I was in denial and I thought he was having some sort of spasm or something. Then it dawned on me "Oh My God!" I looked around quickly and thanked God that it was dark out and there was no one around. I quickly cleaned up the poop and scurried away with Freddie, leaving a gaping hole in the side of the snow bank. How disgusting is that! Then as it really hit me I started to laugh, actually I laughed so hard I almost peed my pants. My basset hound violated a snow bank!

Here. Here's another innocent picture of lovable Freddie to help you get that image out of your head.

March the 21st can't come quick enough for poor frustrated Fred. Right now he's just a desperate horny teen. I mean, how desperate was that! So, once he is snipped and all the snow is gone Gloria will be here and Freddies world will be all settled around! Chin up Fred, we're all here for you!

Awwwe.......

Yes, all the signs were there!

Enough of Winter...wah...wahhhh!!

I have always loved the winter. I love the snow. I love to play in the snow. But enough is enough and now I just want some warmer weather. It's just too darn cold out there! Maybe it's an age thing I don't know, but I've had enough. Dogs though, they don't care. They just look out the window, see the outdoors and want to be there instead of here....where it's warm...and there is no snow....and there is hot coffee. But as Freddies' devoted owner, I throw on my long johns, that's right I said long johns, my snow pants, my sweater, coat, Detroit Lions toque, ear muffs, mittens, scarf and my boots. Then I grab a bunch of kleenex ('cause I know my nose will run non-stop) and a couple of poop bags ('cause Fred likes to make our walks that much more special)and head out the door sweating like a stuffed pig! Why? Because that alone just took me 20 minutes! When Fred and I get back 40 minutes later, I let him run around in the backyard to get that last little bit of piss and vinegar out of him.

Then I try to bribe him with a treat to get him inside 'cause even though his paws are freezing up he just doesn't want to come in, he just wants to stay outside and play.
He still thinks if he hides behind the lilac bushes that I won't be able to see him.

She'll never see me back here.......hee!hee!hee!

I never said he was the sharpest tool in the shed, did I?

Once inside, I'm feeling pretty good about myself. I pat myself on the back knowing that even in this stinkin' cold weather I still did the right thing and took my dog for a walk. I take off all my crap thinking "there that wore the little bugger out", walk into to the living room to this.........

Do ya wanna play Momma? Huh? Huh?

That's when I laugh and thank God and Becki from Autumn Blaze Bassets, of course, for my Freddie Spaghetti!! I love him to bits!!

So, you had better get over to AutumnBlazeBassets.webs.com 'cause she only has four of Gloria and Turbos puppies left!! Adorable!!

The Big 5-0

Yep, it's the big 5-0 today. Groundhogs Day and no I didn't see my shadow. Yippee! Early spring! So, for 50 years now I have been sharing my birthday with my sister Patti. Okay, fine, she's been sharing her birthday with me. Every year she tries to call and wish me a Happy Birthday first and every year I pick up the phone and say Happy Birthday instead of hello, (snicker! snicker!) and she says s#@t!! Just one of the many things we've shared over the years. When we were little our Mother used to dress us in the same clothes, people bought us the same toys....blah, blah, blah. We weren't twins! Same day different year people! FOCUS!! We shared our bedroom and bed 'til we were teens. She put up with me sucking my thumb and constant whining and I put up with her licking her chunk of rock salt she got on a school trip. I tagged along and squealed a lot. (What can I say, I'm a tattle tail.) Now, all these years later we've grown older and gotten busier in our own lives but, we will always have that one day to share! So, Happy Birthday to my sister Patti! Thanks for putting up with me and sharing your day with me all these years!!
